Tony is founder, editor and CEO of National Capital SCAN, which delivers news and information about high tech companies, people and events in Ottawa. Its forerunner, Silicon Valley NORTH, also founded by Tony, had separate editions in Ottawa, Toronto, Alberta and BC.
Prior to Silicon Valley NORTH Tony was one of Canada’s most active speechwriters, with a client list that included a Prime Minister, various cabinet ministers and CEOs of major corporations. Through the 1970s and 1980s he produced dozens of consultation seminars, bringing together some 4,000 senior executives from the private sector with federal and provincial government ministers and deputies.
Educated by the Jesuits at Loyola College in Montreal (BA 1960), after finishing college he went directly to editing community weekly newspapers. He has been host and writer of Projection, a public affairs TV show dealing with change, producer of radio documentaries and a frequent commentator on business topics for CBC radio. He was associate editor of Financial Times of Canada and Canadian correspondent for The Economist, Business International and New Scientist, among other publications. He has written more than two million words for publication.
Born in Toronto, raised in Montreal, active in the West Indies where he resided (Barbados) from 1968 to 1972, he has lived since 1976 in Ottawa, where he came originally to be senior communications advisor to the Anti Inflation Board. He has six sons, two daughters and nine grandchildren, who reside in Kamloops, Vancouver, Yellowknife, Kangiqsualujjuaq, Ottawa and Montreal.
Tony has qualified as a member of both Mensa and Intertel. He is a practitioner and former instructor of Taoist Tai Chi and Lok Hup. He is the recipient of the 1997 CATA Award of Distinction for Excellence in Science and Technology Reporting and the 1999 Print Media Award of the Ottawa Life Sciences Council.
